BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

The practical plan.

Use these details alongside the itinerary and inclusions. Your written quote confirms the actual arrangements for your dates.

Your riding choice
Aim for the full uphill approach or agree a shorter ride with vehicle assistance. The exact route and bike sizes are confirmed for your party.
A proper supported day
Your guide rides with the group. The driver meets at agreed road-access points and takes you and the bikes back to Moshi after lunch.
Coffee with a host
Coffee preparation or tasting and lunch are included in the plan. Host fees are included; the farm and activity are confirmed before booking.
Before your mountain trek?
Allow recovery time around a Kilimanjaro climb. Choose a shortened gentle version if appropriate; this village ride does not acclimatise you for the summit.

THE PLAN

Your itinerary

07:00–08:00 · meet and prepareMoshi town: fit your bike and agree the day

Meet at the agreed Moshi hotel or town meeting point. Fit the mountain bikes and helmets, check brakes and gears, and review road riding, regrouping points and the support vehicle plan. The guide confirms the day’s route and weather. Share your riding experience and agree whether to aim for the full town-to-village ride or use vehicle assistance on selected sections.

Morning · the town chapterLeave Moshi at a steady pace

Begin through the town outskirts while the morning is cooler. Follow the guide’s chosen streets, use cautious road crossings and regroup regularly. Public roads carry traffic; a short vehicle transfer can replace a busy or unsuitable section. Pause for water and a seasonal fruit snack rather than treating the ride as a timed challenge.

Late morning · the foothill chapterRide towards Marangu’s farms and village roads

Continue towards the rising foothills, with a mixture of paved road and smaller lanes as conditions allow. The full approach is a demanding uphill ride, planned at roughly 35–45 km rather than an easy flat tour. Coffee and banana-growing landscapes become part of the journey closer to Marangu. Take breaks, walk a steep section or use the agreed support vehicle when needed.

Early afternoon · the coffee chapterMeet your Marangu coffee host

Park the bikes for a pre-arranged host-led coffee visit. Learn how local coffee moves from bean to cup and join the preparation and tasting activity agreed for your date. Fresh-cherry harvesting is seasonal and is not promised. Ask about farming and village life, with time for conversation and photographs only with permission.

Afternoon · lunch and village timeA local lunch, then return by vehicle

Share the included local lunch and enjoy a short village walk if time and energy allow. Load the bikes and return to Moshi by the support vehicle, normally arriving around 16:00–17:00. There is no compulsory long downhill ride after lunch. Waterfalls, caves and additional venues are optional extensions with their own timing and price, agreed in advance.

GOOD TO KNOW

Practical details

The full ride is best for confident cyclists with experience on public roads and sustained climbs. The planning range is approximately 35–45 km, with substantial uphill sections; the guide confirms the actual distance, surface and elevation profile after checking the chosen route. Allow roughly 4–6 hours of riding and breaks within an 8–9-hour day. Traffic, heat, rain and road conditions can require transfers or a shorter ride. A vehicle cannot follow every narrow lane; access and regrouping points are agreed before departure. Share every rider’s height and experience when enquiring. Adult prices are shown; children require a separate suitability and bike-size check. This is a foothill and village experience, with no Kilimanjaro National Park cycling access included.

Tell me about food preferences, walking pace and access needs when you enquire. We’ll agree any changes to the route and price before you confirm.

BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

Your cycling questions, answered.

Is the ride suitable for a beginner?

The full Moshi-to-Marangu approach has traffic and sustained climbing, so it suits confident riders. A shorter assisted version may be possible after discussing your skills and bike fit. It is not advertised as a beginner lesson or an easy flat outing.

Do we cycle back to Moshi?

The standard plan returns by vehicle with the bikes after the coffee visit and lunch. That keeps the day manageable and avoids making a long downhill ride compulsory when riders may be tired.

Will the support vehicle stay directly behind us?

Not on every lane. The driver uses suitable access roads and meets the group at agreed points. The guide carries basic spares; any section without vehicle access is reviewed in the briefing.

Are waterfalls or Kilimanjaro park entry included?

No. This package focuses on the town-to-village ride, coffee visit and lunch. A waterfall, cave or museum can be added with a revised timetable and price. It does not include cycling inside Kilimanjaro National Park.

What happens if heavy rain makes the ride unsuitable?

The guide assesses road and trail conditions before departure. David agrees any shorter ride, transfer-based village alternative, postponement or applicable booking terms with you; no muddy trail or full-distance ride is guaranteed regardless of weather.
