THE PLAN
Your itinerary
Time in Tanzania: allow 8 days including arrival and departure around the 6-day mountain route.
Arrival · trip day 1Moshi: review your acclimatisation and high-start plan
Meet the mountain team at your included Moshi hotel. Review where and when you have recently been at altitude, the high first-night camp, personal kit and the exit plan. Ordinary fitness or past adventure travel alone does not qualify you for this route. The operator must accept your recent acclimatisation and confirm the vehicle access and permitted itinerary before the climb is confirmed.
Mountain day 1 · trip day 2Londorossi, Morum Barrier and the walk to Shira 2
Transfer from Moshi for Londorossi registration, then use the agreed high-clearance vehicle access towards Morum Barrier, around 3,400 m, if the park and road conditions permit. Walk across the plateau towards Shira 2, approximately 3,850 m; allow roughly 5–7 hours depending on the approved trailhead. This bypasses Mti Mkubwa and the Shira 1 overnight. The high sleeping altitude is the main reason prior acclimatisation is required.
Mountain day 2 · trip day 3Shira 2 via Lava Tower to Barranco
Walk east through the alpine landscape towards Lava Tower, approximately 4,630 m, before descending to Barranco Camp, around 3,960 m. Allow roughly 6–8 hours. The guide reviews your condition throughout the higher crossing and can alter the route or descend if necessary. Look for the distinctive giant groundsels in the valley, while keeping a steady pace and time for food and rest.
Mountain day 3 · trip day 4Barranco Wall to an overnight at Karanga
Follow your guide up the Barranco Wall, where hands are needed on sections of the scramble, then cross the undulating southern valleys to Karanga Camp, approximately 4,035 m. Allow roughly 4–5 hours. This package keeps a dedicated Karanga overnight instead of continuing straight to high camp, leaving time to rest before the next ascent.
Mountain day 4 · trip day 5Karanga to Barafu: prepare for the summit attempt
Climb through increasingly sparse alpine terrain to Barafu Camp, approximately 4,670 m, usually in about 3–4 hours. Eat, organise warm layers and rest before the night’s planned ascent. Review the guide’s summit decision, pace and turnaround arrangements. Exposure, cold and altitude make this a serious mountain environment even though the walking stage is shorter.
Mountain day 5 · trip day 6Stella Point and Uhuru attempt, then Mweka Camp
If the guide approves the attempt, leave around midnight for the steep ascent to Stella Point, approximately 5,756 m, and continue towards Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m, only while conditions and your response allow. Descend via Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp, around 3,100 m. Expect roughly 12–16 hours or more overall. The team’s safety and turnaround decisions govern the day.
Mountain day 6 · trip day 7Mweka forest descent and return to Moshi
Descend through montane forest towards Mweka Gate, around 1,640 m, normally in about 3–4 hours of walking. Complete the exit formalities and transfer back to Moshi for the second included hotel night. The forest is part of the descent on this high-start variant; it is not included as an uphill Lemosho forest stage.
Departure · trip day 8Breakfast and onward travel
After breakfast at your Moshi hotel, continue with your agreed onward arrangements. Airport transfers, extra recovery nights, a safari or a village day can be quoted separately. Keep the evening after the mountain descent free; this plan does not depend on catching a flight on descent day.
YOUR PRIVATE PARTY
Guide prices by group size
Estimated USD prices for international adults booking a private climb together. Mountain sleeping tents and Moshi hotel rooms are shared by pairs; the solo estimate includes a single hotel room and a sleeping tent for one.
| Your party | Per adult | Group total |

| 1 adult | USD 2,795 | USD 2,795 |
| 2 adults | USD 2,245 | USD 4,490 |
| 4 adults | USD 2,045 | USD 8,180 |
The estimate covers the planned park charges, crew, mountain catering, tents and mats, Moshi–gate transfers and two Moshi bed-and-breakfast nights. Airport transfers and personal kit are separate. Other group sizes, visitor categories, private toilet tents and extra nights receive their own written quote. Confirm current fees, equipment and availability before booking. The high-start vehicle allowance is included; a separate acclimatisation programme is not.

GOOD TO KNOW
Practical details
This is the high-start Shira approach joining the Lemosho southern circuit, sometimes marketed as shortened Lemosho. It does not include the lower Lemosho forest ascent or Mti Mkubwa camp. The first planned sleep is around 3,850 m, so this is not our default choice for travellers arriving from low altitude. Recent acclimatisation and operator approval are required; fitness alone is insufficient. The six-day/eight-calendar-day package does not include the time or cost of preparing at altitude. Vehicle access, park permission and the exact starting point must be confirmed; if unsuitable, agree a longer route and revised quote rather than force this schedule. Times and elevations are approximate, and reaching the summit is never guaranteed.

Your Lemosho–Shira questions, answered.
Which camps do we skip, and do we still sleep at Karanga?
The agreed high-start approach bypasses Mti Mkubwa and the Shira 1 overnight. The five camp nights are Shira 2, Barranco, Karanga, Barafu and Mweka. Karanga is a separate overnight on mountain day 3.
Is this the same as the normal forest-start Lemosho route?
No. It uses the high Shira vehicle approach after Londorossi registration and joins the trails used by Lemosho climbers. The page names both Lemosho and Shira to make that distinction clear. The eight-day package retains the lower forest ascent.
Does being fit or an experienced adventurer make this suitable?
Fitness helps with the physical work but does not prevent altitude illness. This high start requires recent acclimatisation, a detailed discussion with the mountain team and approval of the actual plan. It is not recommended as a first high-altitude climb straight from low altitude.
What happens if vehicle access or the high start is unsuitable?
The route is checked before confirmation. If access, permissions or your preparation do not support it, David will propose a longer itinerary with its own time and price. No alternative trailhead or rushed schedule is assumed within the advertised six days.
