THE PLAN
Your itinerary
Time in Tanzania: allow 7 days including arrival and departure around the 5-day mountain route.
Arrival · trip day 1Moshi: meet your crew and prepare
Arrive in Moshi for the first included hotel night. Review your walking experience, five-day route choice, equipment, hut arrangements and summit turnaround plan with the mountain team. Use your Hut-to-Hut Notes to record the agreed meeting time and personal equipment gaps. Airport transfers and rental equipment are separately quoted.
Mountain day 1 · trip day 2Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After breakfast, transfer from Moshi to Marangu Gate for registration. Walk through montane rainforest to Mandara Hut, approximately 2,720 m. Allow roughly 4–5 hours of walking, plus registration and rest stops. Settle into the shared hut, meet the crew over dinner and review the next day’s plan.
Mountain day 2 · trip day 3Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Leave the forest and walk through heath and moorland to Horombo Hut, approximately 3,720 m. Allow around 6–8 hours, depending on pace and conditions. Views of Mawenzi and Kibo depend on the weather. Rest, eat and discuss how you are feeling with your guide. This five-day plan has no additional acclimatisation day at Horombo.
Mountain day 3 · trip day 4Horombo Hut across the saddle to Kibo Hut
Follow the higher trail across the alpine saddle towards Kibo Hut, approximately 4,700 m. Allow roughly 6–7 hours of walking. After an early meal, prepare warm layers, headlamp and the equipment agreed with your guide, then rest. The guide reviews conditions and your readiness before deciding whether the overnight summit attempt should proceed.
Mountain day 4 · trip day 5Summit attempt via Gilman’s Point, then descend to Horombo
If the guide considers the group and conditions suitable, begin around midnight and ascend steep scree to Gilman’s Point, approximately 5,685 m. Continue around the crater rim towards Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m, only if conditions and your guide allow. Descend via Kibo and continue to Horombo for the fourth hut night. This is the longest stage: commonly 12–15 hours or more including the descent. A turnaround takes priority over reaching the summit.
Mountain day 5 · trip day 6Horombo to Marangu Gate, then return to Moshi
Descend through moorland and rainforest, passing Mandara on the way to Marangu Gate. Allow roughly 5–7 hours. Complete the park exit formalities and transfer to Moshi for the second included hotel night. Keep the evening free to eat, shower, rest and reflect on the journey.
Departure · trip day 7Breakfast and your onward journey
Have breakfast at the Moshi hotel and continue with your agreed onward arrangements. Airport transfers, extra recovery nights, a Marangu village day or a safari can be quoted separately. No flight connection is assumed on the mountain descent day.

GOOD TO KNOW
Practical details
This is a demanding high-altitude climb with no dedicated acclimatisation day. Compare the six-day Marangu itinerary if your schedule allows; fitness does not remove altitude risk. Hut beds and wash facilities are shared. Walking times and elevations are approximate, and weather or the guide’s decisions can change the plan. Before booking, confirm the operating team, hut availability, equipment and emergency arrangements, current fees and the full price in writing. The national park rescue charge is not a substitute for personal evacuation insurance. Dates are on request; a summit is never guaranteed.
Tell me about food preferences, walking pace and access needs when you enquire. We’ll agree any changes to the route and price before you confirm.

Your Marangu questions, answered.
Is this five days in Tanzania or five days on Kilimanjaro?
Five days are spent on the mountain. The package allows seven calendar days, with a Moshi hotel night before the climb and another after the descent.
Where will I sleep?
The four mountain nights are Mandara, Horombo, Kibo and Horombo. These are shared park huts, rather than private hotel rooms. The two Moshi hotel nights and room arrangements are confirmed in your quote.
What is different about the six-day Marangu option?
The six-day route adds a dedicated acclimatisation day around Horombo before continuing to Kibo. It needs eight calendar days with the two hotel nights. Its route and guide price remain available separately.
Does the guide price confirm my booking?
No. Send your dates and actual group size. David checks hut space, the operating team, current fees and services, then sends a written itinerary and total before confirmation.
Are the summit and guide shown in the photographs guaranteed?
No. Photographs show the destination and supplied guiding moments. The final quote names your operating arrangements; weather, altitude response and your guide’s decisions determine the summit attempt.
