THE PLAN
Your itinerary
Time in Tanzania: allow 9 days including arrival and departure around the 7-day mountain route.
19 Dec · ArrivalWelcome to Moshi and prepare
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to Moshi, meet the team, check equipment and discuss the mountain plan. Overnight in a Moshi hotel.
20 Dec · Mountain day 1Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Complete park registration and walk through the rainforest with the mountain guides. Begin at a steady pace. Camp at Machame.
21 Dec · Mountain day 2Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Continue out of the forest into open moorland. Follow the guide’s pace and settle into the agreed Shira campsite.
22 Dec · Mountain day 3Lava Tower and descent to Barranco
Cross higher terrain towards Lava Tower, then descend to Barranco Camp. The day gives time at higher altitude before sleeping lower.
23 Dec · Mountain day 4Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp
Cross the Barranco Wall and the valleys beyond with guide support. Camp at Karanga; this stage stays in the seven-day route rather than being compressed.
24 Dec · Mountain day 5Karanga to Barafu: rest and briefing
Reach Barafu Camp, review the conditions with the guides, eat and rest before the planned overnight summit attempt. Christmas Eve is a preparation day.
25 Dec · Mountain day 6Christmas summit objective, then Mweka
The planned attempt approaches Uhuru Peak via Stella Point before descending to Mweka Camp. Weather, altitude response and the lead guide’s decision govern the day. A turnaround or changed plan takes priority over the calendar.
26 Dec · Mountain day 7Descend to Mweka Gate and return to Moshi
Finish the descent through the forest and transfer to a Moshi hotel. Allow time to rest, share a meal and reflect on the climb.
27 Dec · DepartureOnward travel or a separate extension
Transfer to the airport at the agreed time. A safari or Zanzibar extension can be quoted separately; it is not included in this nine-day plan.

GOOD TO KNOW
Practical details
Proposed 2026 departure, not a confirmed group or a live seat count. Plan for 6–8 adult trekkers, subject to a viable party, the named licensed operator and availability. Six mountain camp nights plus two Moshi hotel nights. The 25 December summit is an objective, not a guarantee. Do not buy non-refundable flights until David confirms the operation in writing.
Tell me about food preferences, walking pace and access needs when you enquire. We’ll agree any changes to the route and price before you confirm.
